Working as a tour manager for rock and roll bands, photographer Julien Sage (formerly highlighted in this article) managed three diverse US excursions in between 2019 and 2022, using him from his household condition of California to the Northeastern edges of the nation and back again. “During these trips I would enter into a certain manner of existence that is very non permanent and, for that reason, sensitive,” he explains. “I found myself becoming increasingly curious about the things I was equipped to working experience and internalize in the course of a time of these kinds of speedy motion.”
Bringing his camera alongside for the trip, Sage took the opportunity to photograph outside of America’s metropolitan hubs, capturing the absurd and lovely moments he encountered over the course of his travels. “Were they to stand by yourself, these images could be boiled down to snapshots,” he claims. “Some of my preferred photographic undertakings could be similarly described.” Influenced by the custom of American street vacation photography, Sage sights the images in “American Honey” as a continuation of that lineage, outlining: “The images signify a lot to me right now and they meant a lot when I was earning them but actually, they are meant to age. My preferred issue about pictures is the accumulation of that means above time. Men and women, destinations and factors are superb applications to help visually describe the passing of time.”
